I couldn't help but feel the rush of excitement as we crafted our commercial spoof entry for this year's Fiesta ng mga Pirata. With a theme like "Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers," we knew we had to deliver something impactful that would resonate deeply with our audience.

As the director of our spoof, I had the immense privilege of working with a talented cast and crew to bring our vision to life. Our story centered around a sensitive topic - the journey of self-acceptance and the courage to reveal one's true identity.

The Plot

Our spoof followed the story of a young man, portrayed brilliantly by Haripath De Jesus, who grapples with the fear of confessing to his father, played by the seasoned Elmer John Catalan, that he is gay. The tension builds as we see the internal struggle of the son, torn between his desire for acceptance and the fear of rejection.

But when we think we know how the story will unfold, we introduce a plot twist that turns everything on its head. As the son finally gathers the courage to speak his truth, his father reveals a fact of his own - he, too, is gay. This revelation shatters preconceived notions and challenges stereotypes, delivering a powerful message of acceptance and understanding.

The Impact

Our spoof wasn't just about entertaining the audience, sparking conversation, and fostering empathy. By tackling a sensitive topic with sensitivity and nuance, we wanted to break down barriers and promote a message of inclusivity and love.

None of this would have been possible without the dedication and talent of our cast and crew. Haripath De Jesus and Elmer John Catalan brought depth and authenticity to their roles. At the same time, Michael Entero portrayed the supportive boyfriend with warmth and sincerity. I also had the support of my classmates, who took part in some of the scenes, and Zaira Julia Alaan and Ken Puno, who edited the clips. Behind the scenes, our crew worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was perfect, from the script to the cinematography, a perfectly made shot by Gabriel Cimafranca.

Winning second place at Fiesta ng mga Pirata was an incredible honor. Still, more than that, it validated the message we sought to convey. Our commercial spoof may have been just a few minutes long, but its impact will be felt long after the credits roll. Our spoof reminds us of the power of acceptance, understanding, and love in a divided world. And for that, I am immensely proud.
